UNM launches first-of-its-kind student recruitment app

University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) together with Sofiri, an application development company that specialises in developing apps related to the education sector, launched an app called UNM Aspire!

UNM Aspire will enable prospective students to connect with education experts (agents) from their mobile phones anytime and from anywhere. This will give aspiring students the opportunity to find information easily and from the comfort of their own home.

One of the app’s main features is online chat that is integrated with WhatsApp so students and education experts can carry out both voice and video calls.

With this launch, UNM is the first university to implement an end-to-end peer-to-peer platform that leverages the knowledge of agents and works around COVID-19 restrictions.

The launch of this pioneering technology is also one of UNM’s initiatives to be more digitally present in addition to connecting prospective students to its agents from across the globe.

The app is available via web or to download on Google Play and the Apple App Store and comes in seven languages – English, Bahasa Melayu, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Spanish and Portuguese.

Student can also access the app via Facebook Messenger, which comes with a chatbot using Natural Language Processing.

CEO and Provost of UNM Professor Graham Kendall said, “This is the first of our many initiatives as we move towards digitalisation. With this app, we will be able to reach out to a wider range of students and extend UNM’s reach even further.”
